كتبت مسرحية "منزل الأشباح" خلال الفترة بين عامي 200 ق.م، وتتمثل أهميتها في كونها لإحدى أروع مسرحيات "بلاوتوس" الشاعر الروماني الفذ، المستحق عن جدارة لقب "عبقري الفكاهة عند الرومان" وقد استمد اسم المسرحية من أكثر مشاهدها تأثيراً، وهو مشهد خداع العبد "ترانيو" لسيدة العجوز "ثيوبروبيديس" وادعائه أن المنزل مسكون بالأشباح، وتعد هذه الترجمة هي الأولى من نوعها إلى العربية مباشرة من اللاتينية لهذه المسرحية التي غفل عنها المترجمون، رغم أهمية "بلاتوس" بوصفه كاتباً هزلياً لايشق له غبار، ورغم بصماته الواضحة على المسرح الكوميدي، لذا كانت الترجمة استشعاراً وتقديراً لتأثير كاتب فذ له هذه الموهبة، التي كانت مثار إعجاب بني جيله من الشعراء، وعامل جذب لجمهور المسرح في روما، ومحط احترام نقاد المسرح ومؤرخيه لأجيال تالية.
