L'histoire de Byblos s'echelonne sur sept mille ans. Village de pecheurs neolithiques des le cinquieme millenaire avant notre ere, Byblos se transforme au debut du troisieme millenaire en un important centre de commerce grace aux relations que la ville entretenait avec l'Egypte, la Mesopotamie et le monde egeen.
Le premier temple erige en Phenicie fut consacre a Baalat-Gebal, la ''Dame de Byblo's''. Les pharaons d'Egypte comblerent de leurs presents la deesse et les rois de la cite qui leur fournissaient le bois de cedre pour leurs travaux de construction et les resines indipensables a l'accomplissement des rites funeraires.
Puis vinrent les conquerants assyriens, babyloniens, perses, grecs et romains. Byblos, situee a un carrefour du Monde antique, a mis a profit cette positoin geographique privilegiee pour etendre son rayonnement culturel et commercial. A l'epoque romaine, la ville devint le cdentre du culte d'Adonis. Par la suite ses temples furent abandonnes et leurs cultes tomberent dans l'oubli.
Ce recit aidera le lecteur a voyager dans le temps et a revivre l'epoque ou Byblos etait celebre et prospere.
