كان أهم ما تمخص عنه البحث في "تراث الإسلام" أنتقاء أحادية هذا التراث؛ فقد كانت التأثيرات لغوية؛ لأن الدنيا تحدثت العربية لغة للعلم والتجارة والملاحة والأدب والفن, وهو ما تشهد عليه المفرادات الكثيرة ذات الأصول العربية في اللغات الأوروبية الحديثة, وكانت علمية وعملية في مجال الطب والزراعة والري والملاحة والرياضة وتربية الحيوان وعلاجه, وكانت فلسفية بفضل ابن سينا وابن رشد صاحب الفضل في ظهور ما يعرف بأسم "الرشديين اللاتين" في أوروبا العصور الوسطي, كما كانت فنية تمثلت فيما خلفته من عمائر مدهشة علي أرض أوروبا, وفي شتي أرجاء الدنيا, وفي الأعمال الفنية علي الخشب والنحاس, وزخارف فن الأرابيسك, وفي إنتاج الأعمال الرائعة علي السجاد والأواني المعدنية, وفنون طلاء المعادن. كانت تأثيرات الحضارة العربية الإسلامية علي الملاحة البحرية, من حيث أستخدام البوصلة والشراع المثلث, وشكل بناء السفن, عميقة ومفيدة في حوض البحر المتوسط, مثلما كانت في البحار الأخري والمحيطات المفتوحة, كما كانت كذلك في مجال الهندسة الميكانيكية والآلات الرافعة ذات التروس, حسبما أثبتت الدراسات الحديثة. وفي مجال البصريات! وبناء المدن, وفي الأدب (تأثير ابن عربي علي الكوميديا الإلهية لدانتي ألليجيري, والذي ثبت من خلال دراسة حديثة حول هذا الموضوع, وألف ليلة وليلة).
هذا الكتاب يحمل عنواناً بالإنجليزية, أسهم فيه عدد من الباحثين الأوروبين, قدم له ألفرد جيوم, وتناول عدة جوانب مهمة في إطار العنوان الذي يحمله الكتاب, كما أسهم من ترجمته عدد من جيل الأساتذة المؤسسين.
