وقبل ان اكتب في الموضوع فكرت كثيرا كيف اتناوله وكيف انظم احداق حياة طويلة وثرية مثل ما كانت حياة أبي، وبالذات انني كنت أفكر فيما كان يتدفق على من أحداث وكلام وصور لا اعرف كيف اتناولها وأصوغها حتى تصبح واضحة أمام القارئ، وحتى يصبح من السهل تتبعها والتعرف على لأبي من خلافها. ورويدا رويدا بدات تتخذ هذه الأفكار والصور والحكايات نظاما معينا وهو النظام التى ظهرت به في مجلة اكتوبر، إذ تتبعت طريقة تيار الوعي، اى تركت ذاكرتي تعمل بحيث ان كل حكاية أو صورة او رأى يستدعي من تلقاء نفسه الحكاية او الصورة أو الفكرة التى تتبعها.
وقد يلاحظ القارئ أن كل ما تحدثت عنه ظهر على شكل تسلسل فكري واحد مستمر يربط ما بين اول مشهد في المذكرات إلى آخر مشهد فيها.
وقد اضفت في آخر المذكرات نموذجا من خط أبي وقائمة ببلوغرافية بجميع مؤلفات أبي التى ذكرتها في هذا الكتاب وهى بطبيعة الحال ليست مؤلفاته كلها.
وأرجو أن يكون الله تعالى وفقني في إظهار صورة حسين مؤنس الإنسان والأب والزوج والصديق كما ينبغي..
