إن مهنة المعلم ليست بالمهمة السهلة اليسيرة، كغيرها، من المهن الأخرى ذلك أن المعلم يتعامل مع بني البشر، وهو متفاوتون في بيئاتهم، وفي مواهبهم، وفي قدراتهم العقلية، وظروفهم الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والأسرية ولكل منهم شخصية مستقلة، واهتماماته الخاصة، وعلى المعلم أن يوائم بين هذه الفوارق جميعها من جهة، وأن ييسر لكل منهم ما يلزمه للإنطلاق بما يتمشى مع مواهبه وقدراته.
لهذا وجب البحث عن المعلم القدوة، الذي صلاحه بالدرجة الأولى في صلاح عقيدته وخلقه وأخلاقه، لهذا جاءت فكرة هذا الكتاب الذي يمثل دليلاً للتطوير المهني، ويشتمل على ستة فصول، وهي:
الفصل الأول / ويتكون من ثلاثة أبواب: - الأخلاقيات، المهنة، مهنة التعليم.
الفصل الثاني / ويتكون من بابين: مكانة مهنة التعليم، وحقوق المعلم وواجباته.
الفصل الثالث/ وهو صلب الكتاب وتم فيه عرض خصائص الأخلاق عند المعلم المسلم وأركان حسن الخلق عنده ومصادر أخلاقيات مهنة التعليم والسلوك الأخلاقي في إطار مهنة التعليم ومن ثم عرض الأخلاقيات بالدليل النقلي. ومن باب التوضيح عرضت بعض المخالفات للمعلم المهنية وعقوبتها.
الفصل الرابع/ ويتكون من بابين: التوافق المهني للمعلم، والإعتماد المهني للمعلم.
الفصل الخامس/ ويتكون من بابين: أدوار المعلم الجيدة، وتمكين المعلم.
الفصل السادس: ويتكون من ثلاثة أبواب، وهي خاصة بتصورات مستقبلية، يحتاجها المعلم لمواكبة التقدم العلمي والتكنولوجي.
الباب الأول/ الإعداد الثقافي للمعلم كاستراتيجية هامة في صقل مهارات المعلم.
الباب الثاني/ دول المعلم في تنمية القيم العلمية، باعتبار القيم العلمية أساس التفوق.
الباب الثالث/ المعلم واستخدام تكنولوجيا المعلومات والإتصالات.
