بمناسبة احتفال العالم كله بتحول تاريخ البشر من قرن إلى قرن، من القرن العشرين إلى القرن الواحد والعشرين، وبمناسبة مرور ربع قرن على الإشهار الثاني للجمعية الفلسفية المصرية (1976-2000)، بعد الإشهار الأول الذي قام به منصور فهمي باشا عام 1944، وبالتعاون مع مركز دراسات الوحدة العربية، عقدت هذه الندوة "الفكر الفلسفي العربي في مائة عام" في 18-21 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر 2000 بقسم الفلسفة بكلية الآداب في جامعة القاهرة. وقد ألقي فيها حوالي خمسة وثلاثين بحثاً من مصر وتونس والجزائر والمغرب والأردن ولبنان والعراق، على مدى أربعة أيام. وقد جمعت الأوراق بين الرؤيتين القومية لمعرفة ما هي أهم إشكاليات الفكر الفلسفي العربي في الأعوام المائة الأخيرة، والقطرية لمعرفة كيف تناولها كل قطر، وكيف ظهرت فيه وهو ما دفع إلى تصنيف الأوراق كلها في أقسام أربعة: الإشكالية العامة، والفلسفة في مصر، والفلسفة في المغرب العربي. والفلسفة في الشام والعراق.
