كان عندي كل البواعث لأن أشعر وأنا أغادر القاهرة أنني قد قمت بواجبي جيداً، فقد تركت مصر التي قدر لي أن أحضر إليها لأعمل سفيراً فيها لأول مرة في حياتي. وقد كانت البداية ليست فقط ناجحة، ولكنها اوصلتني إلى طريق عمل أصعب وأكثر متعة - إلى مقدمة خشبة المسرح الدبلوماسي، التي كانت تمثله هيئة الأمم المتحدة وستظل تمثله. وأنا أشعر الآن بالامتنان لحسن ضيافة مصر ولزملائي الدبلوماسيين السوفييت، ولباقي العاملين في الهيئات السوفييتية بجمهورية مصر العربية، لتأييدهم ومعاونتهم لي. وأنا سعيد بأنني كنت مشاركاً معهم في بدء العملية التي أدت إلى علاقات ناضجة وقوية بين موسكو والقاهرة على أساس من الاحترام والثقة والصداقة والمنفعة المتبادلة. وأتمنى بأمانة أن تظل كذلك دائماً.
