إن الاشتقاق هو أحد خصائص اللغة العربية الأساسية وهو وسيلة مهمه فى نموها فاللغه العربية هى لغه اشتقاقية من الدرجة الأولى .. والاشتقاق هو توليد لبعض الالفاظ من بعض و الرجوع بها غلى أصل واحد يحدد ما دتها ويوحى بمعناها المشترك الأصيل مثلما يوحى بمعناها الخاص الجديد وهذه الوسيلة العلمية فى توليد الألفاظ والمصطلحات . الجديدة جعلت علماء اللغة القداس يدركون مدى اهميتها فى نمو اللغه وتصرفها فى المعانى فاهتموا بها وأفردوا لها فى مصنفاتهم ورسائلهم فصولا وأبوابا كاملة ومن هؤلاء العلماء الإمام محمد بن على الشوكانى أحد علماء اليمن المتأخرين الذين عرفوا بثقافة الواسعة التى استوعبت كثيرا من العلوم الشرعية وعلوم اللغه والتركيز فيها والعنايه بقضاياها واهتمامه بالأدب والشعر وهذا الكتاب هو تحقيق لكتابة نزهة الأخلاق المعنى يعلم الاشتقاق فى اللغه العربية .
