العالم الداخلي للإنسان بتصدعاته وانهياراته هو ما يشغل القاص وليد النبهاني في (المنشأة والناي)، وقد عبر عنه بلغة سردية ذات قيمة فنية، تتحرك بإيقاعات تنويعية أشبه بعمل سيمفوني، يعزف بأوتاره ألحان الحياة.
تتألف المجموعة من سبعة عشر قصة قصيرة وقصيرة جداً، نقرأ فيها نزعة واضحة لاستدعاء الموروث التراثي والقروي بما فيه عالم الطبيعة من هضاب ووديان وصخور، ورصد الكاتب لموقع الإنسان في هذا العالم وفي علاقاته مع الآخر، والسير به إلى داخل القص، وإثقاله بمحمولات فكرية خاصة بالكاتب تمثل رؤيته للأشياء، وقد انسلت في النص في أعمق مستوياتها الجمالية والدلالية، تدفع بقارئها إلى عوالم أسمى وأرحب سواء على مستوى الحكاية أو على مستوى الخطاب.
من عوالم القصص نقرأ ما كتبه النبهاني في (الحكاية الجديدة):
لا تنتظر مني شرحاً مفصلاً لكل شيء. عليك أن تدرك أن بصري ضعيف وذاكرتي أضمحلت تماماً. منذ أن تدحرجت جثة (ود نهشة) حُملت إلى الوادي الذي جرفها مع جذوع النخل (...) أما من حملها ومن القاها في الوادي فذلك علم الغيب. إسمع مني الحكاية الجديدة ولا تصدق غيرها إن شئت: "كانت هناك خراف سمينة خبأها (ود نهشة) يعلِّفها بنفسه ويعتني بها جيداً" ... ربما أراد الكاتب هنا أن يقول أن حكايات البشر جميعها متشابهة، ولكن الإختلاف بينهما يكمن في طريقة رويها، ووصولها إلينا، وبذلك يكشف النبهاني عن عمق المأساة الإنسانية، بمعنى أن الماضي برمته ليس مكتظاً بالأحداث المؤثرة، لكن الذاكرة الشخصية لكل واحد منا – بفعل محرض راهن – تقوم بعملية تكثيف ، وتهذيب للحدث.
