السرنمات جمع سرنمة وهي مأخوذة من السير أثناء النوم، من خلال أقاصيص هذه المجموعة، يحاول الكاتب "وليد النبهاني" أن يخرج من شرنقة الواقع ليصنع واقعاً مغايراً، إذ غالباً ما تتكئ الأقاصيص على حالات موجودة في المجتمع. وتحكي لنا هذا الواقع في جو من الغرائبية كما في أقصوصة (بروس واين كما ينبغي) التي يتخيل فيها الكاتب حال رجل الأعمال بروس واين الذي سلب الرجل الوطواط منه شهرته في أفلام لا تشتهر إلا في مدة وجيزة، فيقرر الإنفصال عنه ثم يعود في نهاية الأقصوصة، يحن إلى ماضيه الأشهر بمشاهدة تلك الأيام "... ولم يزعجه في نومه ذاك سوى ذكرى باهتة لأفلام كان يوقظها تلفاز رجل الأعمال كلما حن إلى نصف حياته الأشهر".
وفي هذا السياق يتكئ الكاتب في بعض الأقاصيص على أقوال مأثورة كما في مقولة (فاقد الشيءلا يعطيه) التي "حرفها" الكاتب ليتخذ منها قصة بعنوان (فاقد الشيء سيجده حتماً)، وأقصوصة (ألف موعد وصدفة) التي نقرأ فيها أستعارة من عنوان (ألف ليلة وليلة) ويمزج فيها النبهاني بين مقولات (صدفة خير من ألف ميعاد) و(عصفور في اليد خير من عشرة على الشجرة) وهكذا في بقية الأقاصيص التي سيجد فيها القارئ ما يشبه هدم البناء الواقعي السابق وبناء واقع فانتازي يشبه فعل السرنمة.
ومن عناوين تلك السرنمات نذكر: في البدء الآن، حارسا المرمن، فتنة الناقد، فكرة، بديهة، ضمان الموت، مفتاح سليمان...إلخ.
