إن هذا الكتاب على مكانته وأهميته، وإحتياج كل مسلم إليه - ولا نبالغ في القول إذا قلنا: يجب أن توجد في كل بيت مسلم نسخة منه على الأقل - هذا الكتاب لا تزال نجد أكثر طبعاته، إذا لم نقل جميعها، على النمط القديم، خالية من المزايا الفنية للطباعة الحديثة، تحشى الصفحة بالأبواب والأحاديث، الواحد تلو الآخر، دون فواصل أو ترقيم، او بداءة متميزة، مما يجعل القارئ يجد صعوبة في مطالعته أو الرجوع إليه.
وأيضاً: إنه قلما توجد لهذه الطبعات فهارس فيها شيء من التفصيل، رغم ما يمتاز به هذا الكتاب من كثرة الأبواب - إذ يغلب أن يجعل البخاري كل حديث باباً مستقلاً يترجم له بعنوان - وهذا من شأنه أن يوقع طالب العلم الباحث في حرج ومشقة، عندما يحتاج أن يراجع حديثاً في موضوع من المواضيع أو بحث من البحوث، لا سيما إذا لاحظنا ما يمتاز به البخاري في صحيحه، من تكرار الحديث في أبواب متعددة ومناسبات مختلفة، بل ربما أتى بالحديث في الباب لأقل مناسبة.
