والكتاب بأقسامه الثلاثة جهد مشرف ودراسة علمية، استفاد المؤلف عند كتابتها من البحوث التي سبقته والتي كتبها عن أدبنا المعاصر أمثال الدكتور الحاجرى، ومحمد صادق عفيفى، أو التي كتبها الأدباء والكتاب الليبيون الأفاضل، مثل: الأستاذ خليفة محمد التليسى، والقويرى، والمقهور، وعلى مصطفى المصرانى، والغناى، وسواهم.
ولا شك أن صدور مثل هذا الكتاب قد سد ثغرة كبيرة في بناء الأدب العربي القديم والحديث. ومن محاسن الكتاب اشتماله على باب طويل تحدث فيه المؤلف عن الأدب الحديث في دول شمال أفريقية، ليبيا، ومصر، وسائر بلدان المغرب العربي، وهو باب مفيد وموجز معاً.
