هذا الكتاب يتحدث عن الهندسة التحليلية، وهي أحد أنواع علم الهندسة والذي يمكن باستخدامه حل بعض المسائل الجبرية هندسياً، ويمكن أيضاً التعبير عن النماذج الهندسية بمعادلات رياضية. ولهذا العلم أهمية بالغة لدراسة معظم علوم الرياضيات والتطبيقات الفيزيائية وعلم التقنية.
الهندسة التحليلية ساعدت علي دراسة الفضاء وخواصه الهندسية في العصر الحديث، وكذلك دراسة كل علم جديد، حيث إنها تعتبر الأساس في تفسير الصور في علم الكمبيوتر، كما أنها تعتبر مدخلا لدراسة الهندسة التفاضلية، والتي تختص بدراسة الأشكال الهندسية، وذلك بتطبيق حساب التفاضل والتكامل.
ويرجع ظهور الهندسة التفاضلية إلي النصف الأول من القرن الثامن عشر، وأول من أسس هذا الجزء من الرياضيات أويلر -موبخ- جاوس. وقد تطورت الهندسة التفاضلية مع تطور التحليل الرياضي، وأصبح لها تطبيقات مباشرة علي العديد من العلوم التطبيقية مثل الهيدروديناميكا والهندسة الضوئية وغيرها.
