ابتداء من أول إبريل 2006 م نشرت أخبار عن ترجمة ونشر النص الكامل لكتاب إنجيل يهوذا الأبوكريفي، الذي وجد في المخطوط القبطي. وقد أثارت هذه الأخبار بعض ردود الأفعال من جانب الناشرين وبعض الصحف والمجلات، وجانب الكنيسة والمتخصصين في الفكر الغنوسي الذي كان له وجود ملموس ابتداء من النصف الأول من القرن الثاني إلى القرن الخامس الميلادي. وقد هلل أصحاب الجانب الأول وقاموا بعمل دعاية ضخمة للكتاب قبل أن ينشر كاملًا ونشروا بعض فقراته وتصور بعضهم، ومن تأثر بفكرهم، أن ما جاء بهذا الكتاب، من نصوص، سيقلب المسيحية رأسًا على عقب؛ لذا فإن قصة اكتشاف هذا الإنجيل وما جاء فيه من تفاصيل ومدى صحتها هو موضوع هذا الكتاب.
