مادة هذا الكتاب عبارة عن دراسة أسلوبية، تمثل بمضمونها انموذجاً للخطاب الأدبي المعاصر بأبعاده الحجاجية المتنوعة، وأثراً يستحق الدراسة كونها صادرة عن مرجعية فريدة، في تاريخ العراق الحديث وهي "خطب السيد محمد صادق الصدر التي ألقاها في جامع الكوفة (...) والتي امتدت منت العام 1998م إلى العام 1999م، وهو العام الذي استشهد فيه بعد آخر خطبة ألقاها. وقد تضمنت خمساً وأربعين خطبة".
وزع المؤلف دراسته إلى مقدمة، وتمهيد، وأربعة فصول وخاتمة، وقد تناول الفصل الأول من هذه الدراسة (رؤية سماحة السيد إلى العالم وحضوره في الخطاب وموقفه منه)، وجاء الفصل الثاني بعنوان (حضور المخاطب، موضوع الخطاب، زمانه ومكانه) أما الفصل الثالث فدرس (لغة الخطاب) وبحث الفصل الرابع في (البعد الحجاجي في خطاب سماحته).
تأتي أهمية هذه الدراسة من كون الباحث أخضع دراسته لموازين البحث الأكاديمي الحديث وشروطه، بعيداً عن الأدلجة، فشرح بوضوح دعوة السيد الصدر الإصلاحية الإسلامية، وهو يركز على ثلاثة ركائز لازمة في الفكر العراقي، وهي ركيزة النقد ومشروعيته إزاء المؤسسة الدينية، وركيزة علاقة هذا الفكر بالأمة، والركيزة الثالثة المتمثلة بعلاقة المؤسسة الدينية مع السلطة التي اتخذت أشكالاً أزموية متعددة، من هنا جاءت دعوة السيد الصدر بمثابة تصحيح لكثير من المفاهيم المنحرفة التي سادت الفكر العراقي أرادا لباحث محاججتها بالفكر والعلم وإثبات أهميتها.
