كتاب يصف حياة الصحابة في مكة المكرمة قبل الهجرة وبعد الفتح وفي المدينة المنورة حينما قامت حكومة الإسلام فيها. الكتاب ثلاثة أقسام، الأول يتحدث عن تلقي أهل مكة لدعوة الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم كيف قابلها المشركون، وكيف وقفوا منها.. في محاولات لإطفاء جذوتها بالترغيب والترهيب والهزء والإعراض والحرب الإعلامية والتجسس، وكيف تصرف المسلمون الأوائل تلقاء ذلك.. في عرض لجهادهم وصمودهم وتضحياتهم.
ويصور القسم الثاني حياة الصحابة في المدينة المنورة، منذ مبايعة الأنصار واستقبالهم طلائع المهاجرين، ثم الرسول.. ويتحدث عن صلة المدنيين بالنبي ومواقفهم في الإسلام والدعوة. عرض المؤلف خلال ذلك صفحات من سير أعلامهم من أنصار ومهاجرين.. كما أشار إلى أوضاع المنافقين وتصرفات اليهود.
وتناول القسم الثالث حياة الصحابة في مكة المكرمة بعد الفتح، وخصوصاً من حاربوا الإسلام من قبل وآذوا النبي.. فدخلوا بعدئد في دين الله أفواجاً وصور ردود أفعالهم، وما آلت إليه أوضاعهم، وكيف غدت صلتهم بالرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم.
ينتهي الكتاب بخاتمة في وصف الصحابة، وذكر ما يمتازون به من شمائل مشتركة، هي صفات الجيل الذي حمل على عاتقه تبليغ الدعوة من بعد النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ونشر الدين.
