تنطلق الكاتبة جميلة علم الهدى، في كتابها هذا من فرضيّةٍ مفادُها أنّ التربية والتعليم ليست عمليّة تقنيّة فحسب، وإنّما هي عمليّة مبنيّة على مجموعة من الأسس الفلسفيّة، والإناسيّة (الإنثربولوجية)، والمعرفيّة، والقيميّة، وعلى ضوء هذه الأسس وبعد تحديد الموقف منها يمكن البحث، كما فعلت الكاتبة نفسها، عن الآليات والضرورات والمعيقات والأهداف، وما شابه، للوصول بعد مخاض عسير إلى بيان نظريّةٍ، يمكن أن تسمّى نظرية إسلامية في التربية والتعليم.
وعلى ضوء هذه الفرضيّة المسلّمة، من وجهة نظر الكاتبة على الأقل، تشرع بمعالجة موضوعات كتابها بدءاً من الأسس الفلسفيّة التي تهتدي فيها بخطى الفيلسوف المسلم صدر الدين الشيرازي، وتكمل رحلتها في وادٍ لا نقول إنّه غير ذي زرع، ولكنّه على أي حال وادٍ وعر المسالك.
وتدلف بعد الحديث عن الأسس الفلسفية إلى الحديث عن الأسس والمبادئ الإناسية لتحدّد النظرة الفلسفيّة والنظرة القرآنية إلى الإنسان؛ وهكذا تمارس العملية نفسها لتبني ما تسميه النظرية الإسبلامية في التربية والتعليم، على أسس صلبة، تصوغ منها الأهداف والغايات المبتغاة من التعليم والتربية من وجهة نظر إسلامية، ولتتخذ موقفاً مما تراه أصولاً لا بد من مراعاتها والإلتزام بها في كل محاولة تربوية في الإطار الإسلامي.
