إن الرواية السعودية - في كثير من مراحلها - كانت معنيّة بتقديم تصور عن الآخر، وعن علاقة الذات بالآخر، بوصف الرواية حمّالة للأفكار، وبوصفها قادرة على تقديم رؤية عميقة مستوعبة عن علاقة الذات بالآخر.
ويأتي هذا الكتاب ليجلي هذه الصورة في المدوّنة الروائية السعودية التي جسدت صورة الآخر مع البحث عن خلفيات هذه التجليات وتلك الرؤى.

وأما الآخر (الأورو أمريكي) فقد صورته الروايات السعودية في صور شتى: ما بين صور سلبية، وأخرى إيجابية تتبعها هذا الكتاب، وتناولها بالدرس والتحليل.
