يمثل هذا الكتاب نوعاً من السجال العلمي النظيف والقائم على الإختلاف بين وجهات النظر، والإجتهاد في تحليل النص الديني حول مسألة فقهية هامة وهي، ما هو "حكم الشريعة في استبدال النقد بالهدي" في موسم الحج. سؤال تكرر دائماً.
وفي هذا الكتاب وجهتا نظر للعالمين فاضلين وهما "محمود شلتوت" من مصر، والشيخ "محمد جواد مغنية" من لبنان. وعقب عليها الأستاذ "علي المحرقي".
يعتبر يعتبر الشيخ محمد شلتوت أنه بالإستناد إلى القرآن والسنة وبما صح من أحاديث الأضحية، تقرر في الإسلام أن إراقة الدم نوع من أنواع القرى إلى الله، وأن هذه القربى لا تقوم إلا بذبح الحيوان وإراقة دمه، وأن التصدق بثمنه لا يغني عند الله موقع القبول. كما تضمنت أن مكان الذبح فيما وجب ذبحه هو الحرم "حتى يبلغ الهدى محله" ثم محلها إلى البيت العتيق "هدياً بالغ الكعبة" وأن للشعائر في نظر الإسلام مكانة الفروض المقدسة.
أما وجهة نظر الشيخ محمد جواد مغنية فجاءت تحت عنوان "هل تعبدنا الشرع بالهدي" يقول فيها لقد "تثبت أوامر الله وأحكامه بالكتاب أو السنة قولاً أو فعلاً أو تقريراً أو بالإجماع، أما الكتاب فليس في آية من آياته نص صريح على جواز أو وجوب إراقة الدماء في الحج المستلزمة ترك اللحوم للفساد، ولم يرد في رواية أن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال أو فعل ذلك أو أقر أحداً عليه، فسياق القرآن والأحاديث واحد من وجوب الهدي في مكان وزمان معينيين".
هذا ويتضمن الكتاب عدة مقالات تمثل وجهات نظر مختلفة في حكم الشريعة في استبدال النقد بالهدي لعلماء ومفكرين اسلاميين آخرين مثل: الشيخ محمد رضا شمس الدين، عبد المنعم شرارة، علي كنج، السيد عباس أبو الحسن الموسوي، هاشم معروف، الأشتياني، وغيرهم كثير... كذلك يتضمن الكتاب سجال حول إرث الزوجة عند الشيعة الإمامية وزكاة النقود، والصيد، وحلق اللحية ومسائل أخرى محل خلاف بين المذهبين... جدير بالقراءة.
