كتاب ثقافي ديني اجتماعي عام ، حيث أنه عبارة عن حوارات ومقابلات صحفية أجريت من كبار المفكرين والمثقفين ورجال الدين الإسلامي في مصر ، تتناول هذه الأحاديث موضوعات متنوعة في مختلف المجالات كالسياسة ، والإسلام ، والثقافة ، والدين ، الاجتماع.
كنت قد بدأت مقدمة الطبعة الأولى من هذا الكتاب فى صيف 1992 باستشهاد من كلمات الأديب الفرنسى دى موسيه " تعود ألا تخط شيئا على الرمال وقت مرور العاصفة ! والواقع أن هذا الاستشهاد كان إشارة الى دخول مشروعى المهنى الى ساحة الإسلاميين وممارسة الاشتباك بالحوار السياسى والصحفى فيها وسط واحدة من ذرى التفاعل الكبير حول رؤاهم وطروحاتهم كان عملية صعبة شديدة الوعورة وبخاصة إذا ما عمدت الى عدم تثبيت متغير او عدة متغيرات وتحريك المتغيرات الأخرى بطريقة متحيزة يدفعها الهوى والغرض لأن ذلك لن يعنى حينئذ سوى ان يكون مشروعى للحوار كبطة عرجاء تحجل وتتعثر خارج حدود الموضوعية كانت كل المتغيرات تتحرك بعضها بانضباط والخر بانفلات بعضها فى مدارات تحددت بوضوح عبر طريق تاريخى طويل وبعضها الاخر بعشوائية خارج كل المدارات التى خبرناها أو عرفنا شيئا عن نشأتها أو التطورات التى لحقت بها ومع ذلك فقد امتلات إصرارا على دخول ساحة الحوار مع الاسلاميين حول المستقبل ذلك اننى رأيت ان القضايا التى أثاروها بفضائلهم سواء من النقاط التى اسمعونا فيها صوت الحوار او النقاط التى اسمعونا فيها صوت الرصاص أصبحت هما وطنيا لا ينبغى تأجيل تحمل مسئولية المشاركة فى مواجهة بل انها فى زاوية من زواياها أصبحت تهديدا لتراث الدولة المصرية الحديثة كله . لقد أردت هذه الحوارات التى توزعت موضوعاتها فى نواح شتى بمثابة ملفات مفتوحة أعادو إسهامى فيها كلما تيسر وأشجع اسهام الاخرين كلما حدث وأواصل عبرها إفشاء حالة الحوار كعقيدة مهنية اعتنقتها ولا أنوى بل لا اقدر على الارتداد عنها مهما كابدت أو واجهت ومن أجل هذا فقط اختتمت مقدمة الطبعة الاولى بشكر كل هؤلاء الذين استمرت بفضلهم محاولتى فى رسم خط على الرمال وقت مرور العاصفة وقلت " لدهشتى .. لدهشتى .. إن العاصفة لم تمح هذا الخط " !!
