باتت عمليات تعليم وتعلم المعرفة المتاحة وتوظيفها تصطدم بالحقيقة القائلة بأن معدل إنتاج وتراكم المعرفة العالمية ينمو ويتزايد كمياً وكيفياً بصورة أسية. وأن المعرفة السابقة متسارعة الإحلال والتقادم، مع توليد المعرفة الأحدث، والأكثر فاعلية، وإنتاجية، وإبداعية، والأسرع عائداً، والأقل كلفة، ولم تعد المعرفة الإنسانية المتنامية أسياً يسيرة المنال فحسب، بل باتت أكثر ضرورة للبقاء في عالم متسارع النمو، مطرد التعقيد، شديد التنافس، لا مكان فيه لمستهلكي المعرفة، القانعين بالدراسة للامتحان، غير عابئين بالانفجارات المتلاحقة لتنامي المعرفة الإنسانية وتراكمها، عبر مختلف المجالات.
وهذا التحول المثير في بنية المعرفة يحدث تأثيرات بالغة الجدة على منظومات التعلم وأسسه النظرية والتطبيقية، بحيث أصبحت آليات التعلم السائدة حالياً في مدارسنا وجامعاتنا العربية عاجزة تماماً عن مواكبة هذه التطورات، فقد أدى هذا التنامي المتسارع الإيقاع، إلى اطراد الفجوة بين آليات اكتساب المعرفة لدينا، وتوليد المعرفة العالمية، ونشرها dissemination، واستيعاب تطبيقاتها في حياة الناس، نتيجة تخلف منظومات التعليم والتعلم في مؤسساتنا التعليمية من ناحية، وغياب الاقتناع بأهمية شيوع ثقافة وقيم مجتمع المعرفة من مختلف مستويات صناعة القرار في عاملنا العربي، من ناحية أخرى.
وفي إطار هذه التطورات المعرفية البالغة الجدة للتعلم المعرفي، جاءت هذه الطبعة التي بين أيدينا مزيدة ومنقحة، فقد أضفنا إليها موضوعين بالغي الأهمية والجدة في سيكولوجية التعلم المعرفي، من خلال الوحدة العاشرة التي تتناول: فصلين جديدين هما: الفصل الثاني والعشرون وموضوعه: نظرية أساليب التعلم وتطبيقاتها التربوية في عمليتي التعليم والتعلم. والفصل الثالث والعشرون وموضوعه: ما وراء المعرفة والتعلم المعرفي. هذا وقد جمعنا في كل فصل -على غرار الطبعة الأولى- بين الأسس النظرية والوقائع التجريبية أو الاستدلالية المدعمة لها، والقوانين أو المبادئ المشتقة، والتطبيقات التربوية لها داخل الفصل.
