هذا الكتاب المستقبل البعيد للنظرية الإسلامية المعاصرة على إعتبار أنها إعادة صياغة للنظرية الإسلامية عبر عصورها وفترات كونها الحضارى. وهذا الكتاب يتناول فترة الضعف الحضارى فى التاريخ الحديث من القرت السادس عشر حتى أوائل القرن العشرين، لشعوب إسلامية تمتد كالهلال من البلقان إلى الأناضول (تركيا) إلى فارس إلى أفغانستان حتى معظم الهند. وهى نفس الفترة التى بدأت فيها عمليات الاستعمار الأوروبى بأدواته الرئيسية: العلم الإبداعى، السلاح المتطور، التبشير الضاغط. وتلك الفترة تضمنت المتناقضات التى فرضت نفسها على المسلمين مثل الأزمة بين الأصالة والتجديد والتوفيق، ولكن عندما نتناولها بموضوعية فذلك بهدف اكتشاف عوامل القوة الحضارية الكامنة وعوامل التشويه الحضارى لها، انطلاقاً نحو مستقبل أفضل للمسلمين.
