العراق التي نتناولها بين طيات كتابنا هذا كانت على الدوام منذ فجر التاريخ أرضاً للأزمات مثلما هي أرض للحضارة .. تاريخ طويل تخللته وقفات ليست بالهينة. وبالتالي فالعراق هي صورة مصغرة من الأمتين العربية والإسلامية حيث المعاناة الطويلة من الأزمات رغم تلك الحضارة التي نعمت في ظلها تلك الأمة في سنوات عزها وكانت سنداً لها في أيام انكسارها.
ومنذ فجر التاريخ.. شهدت منطقة وادي الرافدين أو بلاد ما بين النهرين (دجلة والفرات) العديد من الحضارات الإنسانية، التي ترجع أقدمها (وفق المعلومات المتوفرة عند المؤرخين) إلى 3700 قبل الميلاد وهي الحضارة السومرية العربية. ويرجع أصل سكان العراق للقبائل العربية التي نزحت من الجزيرة العربية إلى وادي الرافدين في الألف السادسة قبل الميلاد.
وبداية من عام 1990، وهو العام الذي شهد الغزو العراقي للكويت يحاول التقرير- قدر الاستطاعة- التركيز على هذه المرحلة الهامة من تاريخ العراق متتبعاً للأحداث منذ الغزو وما سبقه من مقدمات لهذا الغزو إلى مرحلة تحرير الكويت في 27 فبراير 1991 بواسطة قوات التحالف الدولية. كما يتناول التقرير مرحلة الحصار الدولي الذي فرض على العراق منذ عام 1991 حتى 2003 حتى سقطت حاضرة الخلافة العباسية (بغداد) ومعها سقط صدام حسين وحزب البعث. ويواصل التناول والتحليل لمرحلة ما بعد صدام وما اكتنفها من أزمات ومحاولات فرض الاستقرار وإعادة إعمار العراق، والعملية السياسية التي قامت على أنقاض الدمار والأرهاب. كما خلص التقرير إلى محاولة رسم صورة توضيحية مفصلة للعراق الآن (2008). وينبغي الإشارة إلى أن الباحث قد اهتم بالناحية المعلوماتية أكثر من الناحية التحليلية وذلك ليقدم للمهتمين بالشأن العراقي وغيرهم من الباحثين ملف معلومات جامع مانع عن العراق... مسيرة أمة منذ فجر التاريخ حتى 2008.
