فهو تحفة لزائر المدينة المنورة ومشرفها صلى الله عليه وسلم يجد فيه ما يبتغيه من أخبار وآثار وفوائد وأحاديث، كما أنها هبة وعطية يتزود بها هذا الزائر عند سفره وفراقه لدار الحبيب صلى الله عليه وسلم.
هذا الكتاب وإن كان جُل مقصد مؤلفه الحديث عن الزيارة النبوية، وذكر ما ورد فيها من أخبار وآثار وبيان لبعض ما يتعلق بذلك، إلا أنه يعد من مصادر تأريخ المدينة المنورة على ساكنها. ومن المواضيع التي تحدث عنها المؤلف في هذا الكتاب نذكر: المسجد النبوي والأماكن الفاضلة فيه، ذكره الوفاة النبوية، ذكر أسطوانة التوبة، ذكر أسطوان المصحف... إلى غير ذلك من المواضيع.
