حين يحاول الفنان أن يستلهم التاريخ في إبداعه الفني يتخذ من الأحداث (أو الحقائق) التاريخية المجردة نواة "أولية" لمعالجة رؤاه الإبداعية بأسلوب فني، شخصي يختار الحدث التاريخي لكي يفضي به إلى ترميز معنوي "مثالي".
إن المؤرخ يدرس الماضي بهدف كشف الحقيقة الموضوعية، أما الفنان فهو يستلهم الماضي بهدف تحقيق التواصل الإنساني من خلال تجربة فنية، إتصالية (روحية تطرح تساؤلاتها على الواقع المعاصر في محاولة الإستشراف "رؤية" مستقبلية.
ومن هنا فإن الفن عامة والمسرح خاصة يتعامل مع التاريخ من زاوية فلسفية، معتمداً رؤية تفسيرية نقدية معاصرة للحقائق التاريخية وإكتشاف عناصر الصدق والتأثر والإقناع فيه والكشف عن أسرارها وخفاياها الكامنة والمستترة، ولذا رأى المؤلف أن يتحدث في كتابه هذا بشكل موجز عن التأويل الفلسفي للتاريخ وعن (فلسفة التاريخ) على وجه التحديد.
وقسم موضوعه إلى بابين، عالج في الباب الأول العلاقة بين الغزو والتاريخ، وخصص الباب الثاني للحديث عن المادة التاريخية ونهج كتابتها في الدراما التاريخية...
