قسمت هذا البحث إلى مقدمة وتمهيد واربعة فصول وخاتمة وقائمة بالمصادر والمراجع وفهرس للموضوعات والتمهيد يتناول بدايات فن المقامات وأشهر من كتبوا فيها وأهم الموضوعات التى تناولوها. ويتضمن الفصل الأول مفهوم المفارقة وعوامل نشأتها، واستعرضت مفهوم المفارقة على مر العصور ومقارنتها بالأنواع الأدبية الأخرى كما تحدثت عن انواع المفارقة. أما الفصل الثاني فقد خصصته للمفارقة الإفرادية من أبنية الطباق والمقابلة والمخالفة وطبقت ذلك على المقامات ، ثم حللت هذه الانواع . أما الفصل الثالث فقد خصصته للمفارقة التركيبية وتناولت فيها أبنية التشبية والاستعارة والكناية ، وابنية المعانب من تقديم وتاخير وخلافه، وتعريف وتنكير وأبنية البديع وما فيها من تهكم وتورية ثم قمت بالتطبيق على ذلك من المقامات وتحليلها تحليلا أدبيا لكل هذه الأنواع. اما الفصل الرابع فقد خصصته للمفارقة السياقية، وتناولت فيه مفارقة الموقف( المفارقة الدرامية) وكذلك البنية الممتدة والموجزة اى (المفارقة البنائية) وأنهيت البحث بخاتمة ضمنتها أهم النتائج التى توصلت إليها وقائمة بالمصادر والمراجع التى اعتمدت عليها، وفهرس للموضوعات.
