في هذا البحث أتناول فيها بالدراسة والتحليل "بناء المفارقة في فن المقامات عند بديع الزمان والحريري"، وتعد المفارقة من الدراسات الحديثة التي تقوم على دراسة النص الأدبي بطريقة غير مباشرة، والهدف من ذلك قراءة النص قراءة متأنية تعتمد على احتمالات متعددة.
وقد قسمت هذا البحث إلى مقدمة، وتمهيد، وأربعة فصول، وخاتمة، قائمة بالمصادر والمراجع، وفهرس الموضوعات، والتمهيد يتناول بدايات فن المقامات، وأشهر من كتبوا فيها، وأهم الموضوعات التي تناولوها.
ويتضمن الفصل الأول مفهوم المفارقة وعوامل نشأتها، واستعرضت مفهوم المفارقة على مر العصور ومقارنتها بالأنواع الأدبية الأخرى، كما تحدثت عن أنواع المفارقة. أما الفصل الثاني فقد خصصته للمفارقة الإفرادية من أبنية الطباق، والمقابلة، والمخالفة وطبقت ذلك على المقامات، ثم حللت هذه الأنواع. أما الفصل الثالث فقد خصصته للمفارقة التركيبية وتناولت فيها أبنية التشبيه والاستعارة والكناية، وأبنية المعاني من تقديم وتأخير وخلافه، وتعريف وتنكير وأبنية البديع وما فيها من تهكم وتورية، ثم قمت بالتطبيق على ذلك من المقامات وتحليلها تحليلًا أدبيًا لكل هذه الأنواع. أما الفصل الرابع فقد خصصته للمفارقة السياقية.
