المعلومات المتاحة بالعربية عن سمورامات أو سميراميس مصدره الأساطير الإغريقية التي قدمتها على أنها شخصية خارقة تصنع المستحيلات، وبالتالي فإن ما كتب عنها يحمل صفة غير واقعية. لذلك تأتي ترجمة هذا الكتاب لتعطي صورة حقيقية عن تاريخ هذه المرأة المتميزة التي أدت دوراً بارزاً في تاريخ الإمبراطورية الآشورية الحديثة في أواخر القرن التاسع قبل الميلاد، فبعد سقوط زوجها شمشي أدد الخامس في معركة ضد بابل تسلمت السلطة في آشور بإسم إبنها القاصر أدد نيراري الثالث، وحكمت خمس سنوات 811-806 ق.م. تمكنت من خلالها إدارة دفة الحكم ببراعة نادرة، والحفاظ على النفوذ الآشوري في كل المناطق التي كان قد وصلها سابقاً على الرغم من وجود أعداء كثر لبلاد آشور آنذاك، وسلمت السلطة لإبنها بعد بلوغه السن التي مكنته من إعتلاء العرش الآشوري. كانت سمورامات أو سميراميس سورية، كما تبين هذه الدراسة، وبالتحديد من أصل آرامي، إذ كان الآراميون يشكلون الغالبية العظمى من سكان سورية القديمة في الألف الأول قبل الميلاد، ونظراً لنجاحها في إدارة شؤون الدولة الآشورية وتنفيذ مشاريع عمرانية مختلفة، فقد ذاعت شهرتها في معظم أرجاء العالم القديم، وحاول كل شعب الإدعاء أنها تنتمي إليه، فالبابليون قالوا أنها بابلية، والإيرانيون قالوا أنها إيرانية، والأرمن قالوا أنها أرمنية، والأوارارتيون قالوا أنها أوراتية، غير أن الحقيقة التي ثبتتها هذه الدراسة المعتمدة على نصوص ووثائق أصلية هي أن سمورامات من أصول آرامية سورية.
