مامن شريعة في التاريخ، وما من قانون أو نظام في العالم، إهتم بتأديب الإنسان وتهذيبه، كما إهتم الإسلام بذلك. فقد حاولت العديد من الشرائع والقوانين تأديب هذا الإنسان فبقي الإهتمام سطحياً أو شكلياً، فيه ثغرات كثيرة تظهر بأدنى تامل. أما الإسلام فلم يترك أمراً كبيراً كان أم صغيراً يتعلق بسلوك الإنسان إلا وجعل له حكماً ورأياً، حتى دقائق الأمور ومصغائرها التي قد لا تخطر على بال أحد، كان للإسلام فيها أدب ومستحب ونظام وسنة. فمن آداب الطعام والشراب واللباس، إلى آداب الجلوس والحديث والتعلم والمشي، والدخول والخروج والركوب والنظر، والنوم والحمام والقراءة والتعطر والوضوء والصلاة، والبيع والشراء، والزواج والسفر والتوديع والإستقبال، إلى آداب المريض والعيادة والزيارة والضيف والإحتضار والتشييع والدفن والتعزية، كل ذلك وأكثر له في الإسلام أدب وطريقة سلوك. ومن الأمور التي قد لا تخطر على بال المرء، والتي جعل لها الإسلام نظاماً وأدباً، ليس له مثيل في أي نظام آخر، آداب شم الورود والرياحين، وكيفية تنظيف الأسنان وتسريح الشعر، وطريقة أكل الرمان والعنب والتفاح، وفتات الخبز، ولبس الخاتم، وتقليم الأظافر، وتنظيف البيوت، وبناء المنزل.... ومن هنا قرر علماء الأخلاق والسلوك... أن من جملة الطرق المختصرة المؤدية إلى تلك المقامات العالية، تنزيل بعض الآداب والمستحبات والمندوبات منزلة الواجبات، والسيد سامي خضرة من الداعيين لهذا القرار حيث قام بجمع السنن والآداب المنثورة في بطون كتب شتى وعرضها في الجزء الأول من سلسلة آداب السلوك لتعم الفائدة للقارئ ويكون نافعاً.
