في هذا العمل تتحدث الحاجة "ليلى مروة" عن مؤامرات نصارى نجران والمباهلة. فما هي المباهلة؟
غرض المباهلة إعلاء الحق وإزهاق الباطل وإقامة الحجة على من استكبر على الحق كما قوله تعالى: " فمن حاجك فيه من بعد ما جاءك من العلم فقل تعالوا ندع أبناءنا وأبناءكم ونساءنا ونساءكم وأنفسنا وأنفسكم ثم نبتهل فنجعل لعنة الله على الكاذبين". أما سبب نزول الآية فهو معروف عندما قدم نصارى نجران إلى رسول الله (ص) ...". من هذا المنطلق أرادت الحاجة ليلى مروّة أن تبين تفاصيل القصة وما انتهت إليه المباهلة، بفضل أنوار وهيبة أهل البيت عليهم السلام، من فوز ونجاح وعز للمسلمين، وخزي وذل للمعاندين.
وفي هذا الكتاب تنقل إلينا "ليلى مروّة" ما جاء في كتاب "الكلمة الغراء في تفضيل الزهراء" للسيد عبد الحسين شرف الدين، وكذلك إبن طاووس في تفصيل المباهلة ومقدماتها في كتاب "إقبال الأعمال" وما كان قبلها في نجران من المؤامرات والمناظرات، في جلساتها المتعددة المنعقدة، وذلك حين دعاهم سيد الأنبياء والمرسلين إلى الله تعالى وأرسل إليهم في ذلك رسله.
وعلى هذا تبين الكاتبة آراء مختلف العلماء في آية المباهلة وتفسيرهم لها ومنها كلمات السيد عبد الحسين شرف الدين، وكلمات السيد عبد الحسين دستغيب.
