لكنّ، ماذا نعرفه عن هذه الهجمات بعد مرور ما يقارب عِقدا من الزمن عليها؟ كيف تمتْ، بدْء من وضع تصور لها، إلى التخطيط لها، وتنفيذها؟ هل لا يزال بعض المشتركين فيها، ماكثين في الولايات المتحدة، دون علّمها؟ ما هو دور المخابرات الإسرائيلية فيها؟ كيف كانت ردة الفعل الفورية للإدارة الأمريكية، وكيف خططتْ فيما بعْد للرد عليها؟ وأخيراً، هلْ كان ذلك إيذاناً بـ "تفْعيل" صدام الحضارات؟...

فالكاتب - الذي حظي شخصياً بمحاورة صمويل هنتغتون حول نظرية "صراع الحضارات" - يغوص في الأعماق ليستخرج لنا المكنونات السياسية والتاريخية للحدث، وكيف يتم وضعه في السياق الذي يتنزل فيه، ويخلص إلى أن الهجمات كانت بمثابة "الثمن" الذي "دفعته" الولايات المتحدة جراء سياساتها الجائرة في حق العالم العربي - الإسلامي، وهي تدخل في سياق عداء تاريخي يطبع العلاقة ما بين الإثنين.
