لقد لعب الشباب دورا هاما فى عملية تحديث بلادهم, وتاريخنا حافل بالشواهد على أن جيل الشباب كان الطلائع المتقدمة فى الثورة على التبعية, وقادوا عملية البناء والتعمير الاجتماعى, إلا إن السنوات الأخيرة شهدت ما يمكن تسميته "أزمة الشباب".
وتكمن الأزمة فى مرحلة الشباب فى أمرين: أولهما: المشكلات التى يواجهها فى فهم نفسه والتعامل مع الآخرين ومع الواقع بصورة صحية. ثانيهما: المشكلات التى تنطوى عليها تصرفات الشباب مع ذويهم والمربية والمجتمع عامة. ونظرالأن الشباب يمثل فئة عمرية هامة, وشريحة اجتماعية تستطيع أن تلعب دورا فى عملية التنمية المنشودة.
وجب أن يبذل المربون بوجه خاص أقصى جهودهم فى وضع القضايا المعاصرة أمامهم على مائدة البحث لاستبصار أسبابها ومظاهرة ومحاولة الوصول إلى عللها البعيدة الواسعة العريضة ثم إلى الحلول المناسبة لها. لعل هذا يؤدى بالشباب إلى الدخول فى حوار مع المسئولين عن تربيتة وتوجيهه. فالحوار علامة مضيئة على مسار الحضارة الإنسانية.
وقد احتوى هذا الكتاب على دراسة شاملة على المشاكل النفسية للشباب وطرق علاجها, وبعد فهذه محاولة أردت بها إلقاء الضوء على بعض المشاكل النفسية التى يعانى منها شبابنا, الوسائل المختلفة التى تساعد على علاج هذه المشاكل وقد أوضحت للمسئولين وغير المسئولين وللشباب نفسة صورة حية لما وصلت إليه الأمور لدى شبابنا من قصور فى التفكير, وانغماس فى الشهوات وابتعاد عن الدين, وتحرر من القيود, وتغاض عن القيم والمثل العليا التى أنبتتها أرض مصر منذ آلاف السنين, فإذا بشباب اليوم يقوضها وينتهكها فى غير رحمة ولا أسف.
يضم هذا الكتاب مجموعة مقالات, كل ما استطاعت عينى أن تراه وعقلى أن يدركه ويستوعبه من مشاكل الشباب التى تعانى منها الأسرة المصرية ودارسنا, ومعاهدنا, وجامعاتنا بل والمجتمع المصرى برمته.
وأخيرا: لقد عرضت بأمانة ووضوح معالم الأزمة والمحنة التى يعيشها شباب اليوم وتصورى لمعالم الطريق الذى يمكن أن نسلكه من أجل خروجه من التوتر والقلق الذى يعيشه.
