خلال قيام المؤلف بتدريس الكتاب المقدس في عهده القديم لطلاب اللاهوت في كرم سده وفي الكسليك وحريصاً، شعر بالحاجة الملحة إلى تفسير للكتاب المقدس ينطلق من المعطيات العلمية الحديثة دون أن يغرق القارئ في متاهات لا خروج له منها، وينطلق من معرفة باللغة العبرانية والسريانية واليونانية دون أن يصبح الكتاب قاموساً من قواميس اللغة القديمة، وينطلق من تاريخ العبرانيين وآدابهم دون أن ينسى الإطار الشرقي الواسع الذي ولدت فيه أيضاً فيه أيضاً آداب مصر وبابل وفينيقيا.
وخلال عمله في ترجمة الكتاب المقدس اكتشف غنىً عظيماً لم يتوصل إليه من خلال تدريسه للكتاب وأبحاثه الشخصية، وهذا الغنى أراد نقله إلى قراء اللغة العربية ليكتشفوا بعض ما اكتشفت ويعرفوا أن كلام الله مصباح لخطانا ونور لسبيلنا. وها هو يقدم تفسيراً للكتاب المقدس في عهده القديم ضمن سلسلة اسمها: المجموعة الكتابية، وهي تتوجه إلى الراعي في رعيته، وطالب اللاهوت ومعلم التعليم المسيحي، وكل إنسان مثقف يبغي فتح آفاق واسعة على محيطه الشرقي القديم، وكل مؤمن يريد التعمق في إيمانه.
أما أسلوبه في هذا الكتاب فيتجلى بمقدمة طويلة تعرفنا بالسفر المدروس من الناحية الأدبية والجغرافية والتاريخية والروحية. 2-تقسيم السفر أقساماً وفصولاً، وإيضاح الروابط بين هذه الأقسام والفصول. عرض كل فصل على الشكل التالي: مقدمة تبين علاقة الفصل بسابقه أو نوعه الأدبي أو معناه العام. تفسير الآيات الكتابية تفسيراً يدخلنا إلى معانيها. استخلاص المعاني وطرح المسائل التي تهم القارئ من الوجهة الأدبية والعلمية واللاهوتية.
