يتضمن الكتاب نبذة مختصرة عن حياة المؤلف والمؤسسة التدريبية العسكرية التي تخرج منها ثم عمل فيها لاحقاً بصفة معلم والعمليات العسكرية التي شارك فيها على الساحة العربية والعراقية وأول هذه العمليات حرب حزيران 1967 في سيناء والعمليات العسكرية في شمال العراق (1974- 1975) ومراحل تبوؤه للمناصب القيادية لوحدات صنف المشاة في الجيش العراقي الباسل وأكثر هذه المراحل أهمية هي تبوؤه لمنصب قيادة لواء مشاة في الحرب العراقية الإيرانية (1980- 1988) لفترة تزيد على خمسة سنوات ونصف وقيادة اللواء في معظم المعارك الهجومية التي حدثت بين الجيش العراقي والجيش الإيراني على طول خط الحدود العراقية الإيرانية وفي مختلف أنواع الأراضي وتميز توثيق هذه المذكرات بالمهنية والحيادية بإيجابياتها وسلبياتها كما عشت أحداثها حال وقوعها كذلك توثيق سياق العمل في أهم دوائر وزارة الدفاع الإدارية للفترة من (1989- 1994) وختاماً توثيق سياق العمل في أهم دوائر وزارة الدفاع (مكتب أمانة السر العام) بمنصب أمين سر مجلس الدفاع (2006- 2007).
