ويختتم الكتاب بترجمة لمقدمة كتاب "كل ما هو صلب يذوب فى الهواء -تجربة الحداثة" لمارشال بيرمان الذى اقتبس عنوانه من مقولة لماركس، ويكاد يكون أهم الكتب التى صدرت عن الحداثة بالإنجليزية منذ ظهوره فى مفتتح الثمانينيات، فالحداثة يمكن أن تاتي لتجمع البشرية كلها فى وحدة، ولكن هذه الوحدة وحدة إشكالية لأنها تضعنا فى معترك من التفكك الدائم والمتجدد... فأن تكون حديثاً هو أن تكون جزءاً من عالم "كل ما هو صلب (فيه) يذوب فى الهواء".
