لقد توخينا أن يكون عام 1291م / 690هـ ، فاتحه هذه الدراسة، لأهميته بالنسبة لحركة الحج، فهو العام الذى يمثل نهاية الوجود الصليبى بالشام، وعدوة حركة حج مسيحي أوروبا إلى مزاراتهم فى الشام ومصر بصورة سليمة ومنظمة- قرابة قرنين وربع من عمر الزمان- فى ظل السيادة المملوكية على تلك المناطق. كما رأينا أن يكون عام 1517م / 923هـ ، خاتمة للبحث، ففيه انتقلت الهيمنه على تلك المزارات من أيدى المماليك إلى العثمانيين، لتنتهى بذلك المرحلة الأخيرة من مراحل تارخي الحج الأوروبى فى العصور الوسطى، لتبدأ مرحلة جديدة منه فى العصر الحديث.
هذا ولقد قسمنا الدراسة إلى فصول ستة تسبقها مقدمة ثم دراسة تحليلية لأهم مصادر البحث ومراجعة.
