إن فلسفة العلم هي حلقة الإتصال بين الفلسفة والعلم، وهي أحدث الفروع الفلسفية بوجه عام، ومن المعروف أن التمييز بين الفلسفة والعلم، لم يتبلور في شكله النهائي إلا منذ قرنين أو ثلاثة قرون على الأكثر، وقد تميزت هذه الفلسفة بسمات عديدة تجلت هذه السمات وبرزت بصورة واضحة في القرن العشرين الذي يمكن وصفه بأنه قرن الإكتشافات العلمية المذهلة، وقرن المعرفة الموضوعية، ولعل أبرز سمات هذه الفلسفة، أنها فلسفة عقلانية نقدية في المقام الأول، أي أهتم فلاسفتها بمشكلة المعرفة أكثر من إهتمامهم بمشكلة الوجود، فتناولوا بالنقد كل العلوم القائمة، وناقشوا أسسها ومبادئها، وأعادوا النظر فيقها من جديد من خلال المعايير التي حاول كل مذهب فلسفي معاصر أن يميز من خلالها بين العلم واللاعلم عن طريق التحليل والضبط المنطقي في ضوء الحاجات الجديدة للعلم، كما حاولوا توظيف نتائج العلم ونظرياته وحقائقه في بناء مذاهبهم الفلسفية الجديدة.
