العقائد الأساسية في المسيحية هي رغبات القلب المحققة؛ جوهر المسيحية هو جوهر الشعور الإنساني، من المسرّ أن تكون منفعلاً بدل أن تفعل، أن تكون مفديّاً وأن تُحَرَّرَ بدل أن تحرّر ذاتك؛ من المسرّ أن تجعل خلاصك يعتمد على شخص ما بدل قوتك العفوية؛ من المسرّ أن تضع أمام ذاتك غرض الحب بدلاً من غرض للجهد؛ من المسرّ أن تعرف أنّك محبوب من قبل الإله على أن تمتلك ذلك الحب - للذات البسيط، الطبيعي، المتأصل في جميع الكائنات؛ من المسرّ أن ترى نفسك متخيّلة في عيون مشرقة - بالحب لكينونة شخصيّة أخرى بدل أن تنظر في المرآة المقعّرة للذات أو في الأعماق الباردة لبحر الطبيعة؛ من المسرّ، بإختصار؛ أن تسمح لنفسك أن تُنشّط بشعورك الخاص، كما بكينونة أخرى، لكنها مع ذلك متماثلة على نحو أساسي، بدل أن تنظّم نفسك بالعقل، الشعور هو الحالة المنحرفة للأنا، الأنا في حالة المفعول به.
