عند الحديث عن التفسير الأدبي من استحضار الدراسات الأدبية التي قام بها الباحثون في الإعجاز القرآني ، والتى وققت عند خصائص النصوص المتفرقة فى القرآن الكريم ، مما نتج عنه بيان لمواضع الجمال الفني بصفة محدودة، لم تستطع إدراك الخصائص العامة ، وبذلك ظل أهم المزايا الفنية للنص القرآني مغفلا وخافيا إلى أن ظهر المنهج الذى يتناول دراسة التصوير الفنى للقرآن الكريم، والذي تخصص فيه الشهيد سيد قطب رحمه الله. وفي هذا التصوير الفني يعبر القرآن بالصورة المتخيلة عن المعنى الذهني وعن الحالة النفسية، وعن الحادث المحسوس والمشهد المنظور. وعن النموذج الانساني، وعن الطبيعة البشرية ، ثم يرتقى بالصورة التى يرسمها . فيمنحها الحياة الشاخصة والحركة المتجددة.
