أصبحت الشاشات رفيقنا اليومي، ولكنها ليست أداة بسيطة في خدمتنا. بحيث نتحكم بها. فقوة الإنترنت، شبابيك مفتوحة على أدمغتنا، وفرحنا، والأشياء المفضلة عندنا، وتستطيع أن تصير محركاً لأذهاننا ولسلوكنا عن بعد، وهي في يد شركات تريد أن تبيعنا كل أنواع البضائع، وكل أنواع الخدمات. ينتج عن ذلك مختلف أنواع المشكلات، مشكلات تتعلق بالمحتوى (تجاري، عنف)، وبالوقت الذي تسرقه منا. ذلك أن الوقت الذي نُمضيه على الشاشة، هو وقت مستقطع من نشاطات أخرى، كالنوم، والحوار العائلي. هذا الوقت المستقطع منا هو بدون شك وقت هدام. أما إذا تناولنا فوائد الشاشات، فهذه الفوائد محدودة. وبدون شك فإن أي نشاط نمارسه في الواقع (مثلاً في المدرسة) ستكون نتائجه أكثر نفعاً على قدراتنا مثل الذاكرة والانتباه.
