يدخل العنف عند بودريار في جميع الثقافات ويتغلغل بين كل الشعوب، ويتعدى خطره جميع الظواهر الثقافية والإجتماعية والأخلاقية في المجتمع الإستهلاكي، إذ يتحول كل شيء إلى علامات وإشارات قابلة للإستهلاك، لتغيير الواقع ويحلّ مكانه واقع إفتراضي يكرّس العنف ويبعد الإنسان عن إنسانيته، حيث تغيب المعايير والضوابط الأخلاقية، مما يفضي إلى إنهيار الواقع الحقيقي ليحلّ بدلاً عنه عالمٌ فوق واقعي hyper reality.
ويرى بودريار أن وسائل الإعلام المختلفة المتطورة كان لها دور بارز في محو الحدود بين ما هو حقيقي وما هو إفتراضي؛ بحيث ينتقل الإنسان للعيش في عالم إفتراضي يساعد على نشر العنف وتطوره عبر الصورة التي تعزز الأساليب العنفية بين الأفراد، وذلك بالإستعانة بالتكنولوجيا المعاصرة المتطورة التي تعمل على تطوير أشكال العنف المعاصر وأدواته.
كما يرجع بودريار العنف إلى تنامي ظاهرة العولمة، التي أوجدت أزمات عديدة عجزت معها الإنسانية عن نشر قيمها الأخلاقية، بل تدعو إلى عنف محض يدعو إلى إقامة عالم خالٍ من القيم العليا، لذلك يحمّل النظام العالمي الجديد بزعامة الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية مسؤولية العنف الذي يعمّ الوجود الإنساني لأنها تعتمد سياسة القطب الواحد التي حوّلت العنف إلى إرهاب، وولّدت عنفاً آخر مضاد للعنف الذي تصدّره إلى بقية شعوب العالم.
تتجلى أهمية البحث في الإجابة عن السؤال الرئيس الذي يتمثل في تبيان مشكلة العنف عند بودريار، وإظهار الفكرة الأساس (موت الواقع) التي انطلق منها الفيلسوف، وطرق معالجته لها، وأثرها في خلق أزمة أخلاقية راهنة.
وعلى هذا النحو، نجد أن مشكلة العنف، تشغل مكانةً بارزةً في حياتنا المعاصرة، وتنبع من واقع عالمنا المعيش الذي تتصارع فيه الأمم، والأفكار والإيديولوجيات، وتشيع فيه شتى مظاهر العنف وتتعدد وسائله وأساليبه مع التطور التكنولوجي والإعلامي مؤكدين على المطلب الأخلاقي الملحاح، حيث تعاني الأخلاق في عالمنا الراهن من عوز وفقر.
