في إطار دراستنا للنظريات الجمالية المعاصرة، نقدم في هذا البحث دراسة عن النظرية السياقية عند "ستيفن بيبر" ( 1891- 1972). وذلك في محاولة لكشف عن اهم افكاره وتطبقاتها والوصول إلى الأسس التى تقوم عليها نظريته. وكان بيبر بعد محاولات البحث عن فلسفة تتسق مع شخصيته قد انتهى إلى البرجماتية خاصةى أنه قد عاصر " جون ديوي" وكانت التغيرات العنيفة بعد الحرب الأولى في السياسة والحياة الاجتماعية والفكرية قد أثرت فيه بشكل عنيف مما قد يفسر انصرافه عن السياسة والمشاركة الفعالة في الحياة العامة ولعل هذا هو الذي جعل الاهتمام به يكاد يكون محدودا - وفي العربية معدوما - ولان فترة ما بعد الحرب كانت تعتمل بالافكار والأيدلوجيات والانشطة السياسية العارمة.
