تنتمي رواية "العالم ناقصاً واحداً" للكاتبة العراقية ميسلون هادي، من حيث الموضوع إلى ما يسمى بروايات الحرب، فهي تحكي قصة طيار عراقي أصيبت طائرته الهيلوكبتر عام (1991م) أي أثناء (حرب الخليج الثانية) وكان إلى جانبه طيار عراقي آخر، والمكان في منطقة السليمانية القريبة من الحدود الإيرانية، يموت أحد الطيارين فيما يؤخذ الثاني الجريح أسيراً عبر الحدود.
يقوم الفلاحون بدقن الطيار الشهيد ويضعون على قبره سترة عسكرية وجدوها في الطائرة المحطمة، وفيها بطاقة هوية بإسم الطيار علي، فيتطوع أحد الفلاحين، بعد أن أعلنت أميركا وقف إطلاق النار بالسفر إلى بغداد لإعلام أهل علي بالحادث.
في الخطاب الروائي: تعتمد ميلسون هادي في روايتها لغة سردية شفيفة، واضحة، لوصف وقائع ما حدث ولرصد مشاعر الأبطال ومواقفهم، واعتمدت في ذلك على إستخدام ضمير (الغائب) والرواي العليم، فكانت أكثر قدرة في التنقل بين شخوص الرواية للتعبير عن مشاعرهم، وخاصة أن روايتها كانت مسكونة بهاجس الوجع الإنسان للأم والأب في حال (الفقد) للإبن، بصورة أساسية، ولهذا مال أسلوبها شفافية رائعة ذات تعبيرات وجدانية مشحونة باللوعة والتذكر الذي جعل من (علياً) الشخصية البطلة المتوفاة حاضراً ومؤثراً في الرواية، بل إن الكاتبة تلجأ إلى المخزون التراثي المرتبط بالوفاة لكي تظل روح (علي) تحلق حول البيت أربعين يوماً غير أنها لا تظهر بعد شروق الشمس.
ولهذا فإن أهل الميت يذهبون إلى المقابر في آخر الليل وقبل أن تطلع الشمس حتى تتمكن الأرواح من رؤية الأحباب المتجمعين حول القبر... وهكذا تمثل شخصيات ميلسون هادي وما تختاره من لحظات حياتهم صورة مجسدة لإحساس إنسان العصر الحديث المغلف بالحروب والفقد المفروض الذي لا سبيل إلى تعويضه إلا بالحلم أو التخيل للحياة الأخرى.
