كان الشغل الشاغل لمفكري نهضة العالم الإسلامي، بيان أسباب تخلف العالم الإسلامي، وعوامل نهضته، وجاء مالك بن نبي كأبرز مفكر عربي مسلم في الشمال الأفريقي في القرن العشرين، وقد انكب على دراسة المشكلات الراهنة للعالم الإسلامي، وإمكانيات تطوره في المستقبل، لقد كان لفكر مالك بن نبي أهمية خاصة، فقد عايش معظم حملات الاستعمار ومحاولات الاستقلال في العالم الإسلامي، وهي فترة من أحط، وأهم فترات العالم الإسلامي، حيث اعتبرها ابن نبي نقطة أفول الحضارة الإسلامية وبداية التأهل لحضارة إسلامية جديدة، ويعتبر مالك بن نبي من علماء الاجتماع المعاصرين، على الرغم من دراسته الهندسية في فرنسا، لقد اهتم بعلم الاجتماع وكانت له نظريته الخاصة في نشوء وارتقاء وسقوط الحضارات والتي اقتبس الكثير منها عن ابن خلدون، وبعضها عن كسرلنج الذي كتب عن نشوء وارتقاء حضارة أوربا في كتابه "البحث التحليلي لأوربا" وقد تميز ابن نبي بمعادلته الشهيرة عن عنصار الحضارة ومركبها، ولمالك بن نبي الكثير من الأفكار الجديرة بالدراسة المعمقة لفهم أسباب تخلف العالم الإسلامي ، وإدراك الوسيلة للنهوض به من جديد. لقد هدفت هذه الدراسة إلى بيان منهج مالك ابن نبي فى تناوله لمشكلات العالم الإسلامى التى لا تزال مجال اختلاف بين علماء الاجتماع و التاريخ و المفكرين، وفى تناوله شروط النهضة و عواملها. و قد تضمنت الدراسة الفصول التالية: 1- مالك بن نبى و مدرسته الإصلاحية، 2- مشكلات العالم الإسلامى عند مالك بن نبى. 3- معالجات مالك بن نبى لمشكلات العالم الإسلامي.
