برزت ظاهرة الصرر الموجهة إلى الحرمين الشريفين منذ العصور الإسلامية الأولى، وجاءت هذه الظاهرة استجابة لمتطلبات الحياة التي تفرضها الظروف الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والدينية المصاحبة لموسم الحج السنوي، وقد رغبت في أن أجعل دراستي هذه مخصصة بالصرة الحكومية الرسمية الواردة من الدولة العثماينة منذ بداية إرسالها لمكة المكرمة (سنة 791هـ / 1389م) في عهد السلطان العثماني الرابع بايزيد الأول إلى نهاية عصر السلطان سليمان القانوني (سنة 974هـ / 1566م) دون النظر إلى غيرها من الصرر التي كانت ترد إلى الحرمين من مختلف البلاد والجماعات والأشخاص من أهل البر، وفي سبيل إنجاز دراستي هذه حظيت بالاستفادة من مصادر أساسية ثلاثة أرخت لمكة وسجلت تواريخها الثرية والدقيقة، كتبها رجال مكيين انتسبوا إلى عائلة مكية وتوارثوا مجد العلم والمعرفة، هم من عائلة الفهود ومن مشاهير حفاظها وعلمائها ومؤرخيها.
إنهم النجم عمر بن فهد في كتابه إتحاف الورى بأخبار أم القرى، وابنه العز بن فهد في كتابه بلوغ القرى في ذيل إتحاف الورى بأخبار أم القرى، ثم الحفيد جار الله بن فهد في كتابه نيل المنى بذيل بلوغ القرى، فهم الذين تابعوا الأحداث والأخبار المكية عظيمها ودقيقها على توالي السنين والأشهر والأيام دون إهمال لتتابع الروايات ولا انقطاع إلا عند خروج أحدهم من مكة في سفر علمي أو سياسي، فإن هذه المصادر الأساسية الثلاثة زودتنا بأهم أخبار الصرة العثمانية وورودها إلى مكة المكرمة مع تتبع دقيق لأحداثها وأنباء القائمين عليها، وبما أن الدراسة متعلقة بالصرة العثمانية فلا شك أنه توجد وتتوافر نصوص تاريخية ووثائقية تركية ذات صلة بالموضوع، إلا أنني وجدت نفسي مضطرة إلى الاكتفاء ببعض ما ترجم عن اللغة التركية العثمانية وهو قليل، تاركة وجهة النظر التركية إلى مرحلة أخرى يتوافر عليها باحثون آخرون.
