وفي هذه الرواية تحملنا الكاتبة إلى متاهات وغياهب الرغبات السرية التي جسدتها في بطل روايتها "خوليان ميركادير" وهو "رجل غارق في دهاليز شغف محرَم: الرغبة التي يشعر بها إزاء ابنته فيوليتا. وفي سعيه لتخطي هذا الهوس وتجنب كارثة الشعور بالذنب، يقوم البطل بابتكار مجموعة من الدمى "المراهقة"، نزوات العديد من الزبائن الذين يقومون بطلبيات أقل ما يقال عنها إنها شاذة. لكن مع هذا النجاح، يصبح "خوليان" في مرصاد جمعية سرية تسعى إلى محو كل أنواع الانحراف...
