"خطط الكوفة" موضوع جديد في بابه، مهم في تركيزه، فقد حرص مؤلفه وقبل ما يقرب من نصف قرن على أن يجوب أطلال الكوفة القديمة بنفسه وأن يدرس ويحقق ما تحت تلك الأكمات بما أفادته به المصادر التاريخية، ثم رسم خارطة للكوفة مطابقة للقرنين الأولين، من الهجرة.
ولأهمية هذا الكتاب اعتنى بتحقيقه والتعليق عليه والإعداد له الدكتور كامل الجبوري كان على الوجه الآتي: جعل النص المترجم في الطبعة الأولى هو الأصل، أبقى هوامش الأصل، أبقى بعض شروح المترجم والمشار بها إليه، وغيّر البعض الآخر، أشار إلى الشروح التي كتبها، في نهايتها، وضع ملحقاً خاصاً في آخر الكتاب لأهم الصور التي وردت الإشارة إليها في الكتاب، هذا ما كان من موضوع الكتاب، وضع النص الأصلي مصوراً كما ورد في مصدره الأصلي.
