يعد من أوائل المؤلفات العربية في مجال تصميم (تخطيط) التدريس أو التعليم الموجه للمعلمين العرب في المدارس والجامعات ونحوهما من المؤسسات التعليمية الأخرى، بغية تنمية معلوماتهم ومهاراتهم التدريسية في ذلك المجال.
فلقد عالج الكتاب هذا المجال بتوسع، فقدم في الجزء الأول منه خلفية مفاهيمية عن تصميم التدريس من المنظور المنظومي، في حين قدم في الجزء الثاني نموذجاً عربياً مقترحاً لتصميم التدريس، قصد به أن يكون مرشداً للمعلم العربي لتصميم الدروس والوحدات الدراسية والمقررات التي يتولى تعليمها.
ونظراً لكبر حجم هذا الكتاب فقد تم تقسيمه إلى مجلدين، يتضمن كل مجلد منهما عدداً من الوحدات الدراسية حسبما هو موضح في فهرس الكتاب.
وأخيراً، يعد هذا الكتاب مرجعاً لا غنى عنه لكل من يعمل في مجال التدريس، إذ تم من خلاله أيضاً معالجة عناصر التدريس التالية: المحتوى، الأهداف الاستراتيجية، الوسائل التعليمية، التقويم، وما بينها من علاقات بشيء من الاستفاضة والعمق، فضلاً عن تضمينه عدداً من القراءات الإثرائية التي توسع من فهم المعلم العربي لمجال التدريس وتصميمه، وما يثار من قضايا وأطروحات في ذلك المجال.
