اول عنصر اكدت عليه الكاتبة في هذه المقاطع هو ان السياسة ترتكز على واقع أساسي وهو التعددية البشرية باعتبار ان التعددية هي قانون الأرض او أيضا ما من شي مما يوجد لا يتواجد بالفرد مثلما اوضحته في الجزء الأول من حياة العقل: التفكير. واذن فان العيش لفائدة الانسان هو ان يكون العيش بين التراب والمتساوين في ضمن المدينة -الدولة، باعتبار ان الخروج عن المجموعة والفضاء العام هو بمثابة العزلة والموت وبالتالي عدم جدوى السياسة لتسيير الشؤون العامة. فالعالم لا يتكون الا بالبشر وما ينتجه البشر من الأرض والطبيعة وبوجود علاقة بين كل هذه العناصر والمجموعة البشرية المطالبة بان تنظم لتجنب الحروب والعنف وربما الإبادة التي توختها الأنظمة الشمولية. فالسياسة هي المجال التي يتعايش فيه الناس أي الساحة العامة لدى الاغريق او مجلس الشيوخ لدى الرومان او البرلمانات ومختلف المؤسسات المتولدة عن الأنظمة الديمقراطية الحالية.
ترتكز السياسة حسب حنة ارنت على الحرية والمساواة على أساس ان هذه الأخيرة مرتبطة ارتباطا وثيقا بالعدالة.
