همست "إيفيت" في أذن الشماس الشاب الواقف عند الهيكل بالكنيسة راجية إياه أن يتناول من يدها ورقتين صغيرتين ويضعهما فوق المذبح, حملت إحدي هاتين الورقتين كلمة "نعم" والأخري كلمة "لا", فالفتاة الحائرة كانت قد قررت أن تترك مسألة الإختيار برمتها لمشيئة السماء, فإذا جاءت الإجابة ب "نعم" سوف تسعي بكل جهدها لإتمام موضوع الزواج, أما إذا كانت "لا" فلن يستطيع مخلوق علي الأرض إجبارها علي الإقدام علي تلك الخطوة بعد أن يكون الرب قد أعلن عن مشيئته بالرفض.
أنتظرت حتي نهاية القداس ثم توجهت في لهفة نحو الهيكل وطلبت ثانية من الشماس نفسه أن يسحب إحدي الورقتين من فوق سطح المذبح, وكانت المفاجأة مروعة لها حين وقعت عيناها علي رد السماء بالورقة وقرأت فيها كلمة "نعم"!!.. أخذت ضربات قلبها تتسارع وراح العرق يتصبب علي جبينها وغادرت المكان في النهاية لتمضي في طريقها منكسة الرأس, ولم يعد هناك مفر من المضئ قدماً في مسألة الزواج من "ميلاد".
